Passion Born Out of Neccessity

I’m sure you’re wondering how The Gluten Free Girlfriend came to be. Our owner’s name is Aubrie, and after spending years constantly sick, she was diagnosed with Celiac disease in early 2015. At the time of diagnosis, she was lovingly referred to as "the gluten free girlfriend," which is where the business got its name.

As a college student, eating completely gluten free in a small college town was not the easiest thing to do, so Aubrie began learning how to make all of the treats that she craved herself! Through lots of trials (and lots of crummy food that her loved ones never once complained about), she’s come up with some pretty kick butt treats that people with all sorts of allergies can eat! It’s a passion of hers to bring safe treats to allergy sufferers in the area, and specifically, treats that are safe for people with Celiac Disease.

We know all about cross contamination, rolling the dice when trying new restaurants, and always questioning if the person preparing your food understands just how severe some food allergies can be. When Aubrie complained about not being able to eat the foods she loved, her parents would always tell her “Start your own business!” So here we are!

With food allergies and sensitivities on the rise, having options for allergy sufferers is something she feels so very passionate about. Her diagnosis, watching so many other people suffer with allergies, and longing for a place that is truly safe is why she began this journey.
